A bold step toward decarbonization is underway in Louisiana.

CF Industries, in partnership with Japan’s JERA Co., Inc. and Mitsui & Co., Inc., has announced a $4 billion joint venture to build the world’s largest low-carbon ammonia production facility—the Blue Point Complex—in Ascension Parish.

This innovative project will produce 1.4 million metric tons per year of low-carbon ammonia using autothermal reforming (ATR), significantly reducing carbon intensity by capturing ~2.3 million metric tons of CO₂ annually.

Captured emissions will be handled by 1PointFive, a subsidiary of Occidental, under a 25-year carbon sequestration agreement at its Pelican Sequestration Hub, securing long-term storage and supporting the project’s eligibility for U.S. 45Q tax credits.

Beyond climate impact, this plant will deliver a major boost to the local economy:

 ✔️Over 1,500 construction jobs

✔️ 100+ permanent roles averaging $110K/year

By partnering with global energy leaders, CF Industries is helping shape a cleaner, hydrogen-driven future. Low-carbon ammonia plays a pivotal role in industrial decarbonization and clean fuel strategies—especially in regions pivoting away from coal and traditional hydrocarbons.

This is a powerful example of climate-conscious investment at scale.
